Featured in this year's conference is a special presentation by Dr. Charles Little about the EMS response to the Aurora CO Theater Shootings. His presentation is scheduled from 9 to 10 am on September 30. His presentation will include the scene and initial response in depth, situational awareness issues, unified command, how FD access drove the PD evacuations, similarities with other mass shootings, and new trends in EMS/police tactical casualty care. Topics touched upon will include the impact of patients into hospital (will review patient injuries) and overall hospital response. Other topics include management of athletic head and spinal injuries, traumatic spinal injuries, latest drugs of abuse and other drug trends, law enforcement administration of naloxone for suspected opioid overdose, updates in burn care, pediatric respiratory distress and airway management, FAST-ED pre-hospital stroke severity assessment tool, the legal aspects and handling of the psychiatric patient.
